GOING BALLISTIC

The Department of Physical Sciences at Kent specialises in forensic science. Steve Walls and his team will demonstrate how to secure and analyse a crime scene, and will give workshops on blood-splatter analysis (the shape of drops can give many clues); tool marks (such as analysis of knives, impression castings, and what a weapon might have been exposed to before the deed); and ballistics.

The techniques used in forensic science do not rely only on high-tech equipment, but also involve things like relatively simple physics and trigonometry.
